ALDI LAUNCHES NEW FAIRTRADE RANGE

Aldi, the premium discounter, has strengthened its commitment to responsible sourcing by launching its first Fairtrade range in store.

The range includes bananas, coffee, tea and chocolate all carrying the Fairtrade mark. The products are in store now ahead of The Fairtrade Foundation’s annual Fairtrade Fortnight, taking place from 28th February – 13th March 2011. The Fortnight aims to raise awareness of the Foundation’s campaign to promote the difference that Fairtrade products make to farmers, workers, their families and communities in developing countries.

Harriet Lamb, CEO of the Fairtrade Foundation, said: “We are very pleased to have Aldi onboard and offering Fairtrade foods to their customers, giving more farmers working in developing countries the chance to tackle poverty in their communities. These are tough times, but the public have made it clear that they have stayed loyal to their values and want to support those people for whom life is tougher.”
