The so-called Super Tuscans are wines made by blending native and French varieties grown in Tuscany. Aldi’s new Toscana Rosso 2006, in store form 12th July, is made from Sangiovese, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon and is classified as IGT (a wine typical of the region). You will find it on the shelves at all Aldi stores for a modest £3.99 – Super Tuscans are normally around £39.90.A gold medal winner at last year’s Berlin Wine Fair, it comes in an elegant, tapered, embossed bottle. Garnet red in colour with attractive aromas and late tannins, it is a smooth, food-friendly wine that really shows its paces with a wide range of dishes. Enjoy with pasta and meat and tomato sauces, grills, roasts and stews. For the technically minded: Ph. 3.35, Residual sugar: 7 g/l, 13% abv
