ALDI DONATES ALMOST HALF A MILLION EASTER EGGS TO CHARITIES ACROSS THE UK
Aldi is donating almost half a million surplus Easter eggs to charities across the UK.
From 2nd – 11th April, Aldi will provide up to 50 Easter eggs per store each day to local charities and food banks that support vulnerable families and children. The Easter eggs include Aldi’s Moser Roth Delectable Duo and Curious Inventions, as well as Maltesers Teasers and Cadbury Twirl chocolate eggs.
The donations form part of Aldi’s ongoing partnership with community engagement platform, Neighbourly, which sees all 877 Aldi stores in the UK donate food to local charities and community groups at the end of each day.
Last year, the supermarket helped to donate more than four million meals to charities across the UK.
Fritz Walleczek, Managing Director of Corporate Responsibility at Aldi UK and Ireland, said: “We’re always looking for new and creative ways to increase the amount of food that we’re able to donate. Working with Neighbourly to donate Easter eggs to different groups and charities across the nation is a great way for us to bring a festive treat this Easter.”
Steve Butterworth, Neighbourly CEO said: “We’re grateful to be able to partner with Aldi on this project and proud to support them in their ongoing commitment to reduce food waste and make a positive difference to the communities where they operate at this particularly difficult time”.
As Brits continue to look for ways to cut household costs, consumer group Which? has yet again named Aldi as the cheapest UK supermarket. With savings of £12.62 compared to the average Big Four basket, Aldi shoppers can be confident they’re getting the best deal.
