16 Jun 2016

  • Aldi launches high quality premium Wagyu steaks on Thursday 16th June 2016
  • Range comprises Specially Selected Wagyu Ribeye Beef Steak and Specially Selected Wagyu Sirloin Beef Steak
  • Aldi set to become largest retailer of Wagyu
  • Priced at just £7.29 for 8oz/277g

Foodie fans are in for a real treat with the launch of Aldi’s super luxury selection of premium Wagyu beef, on sale from 16th June, in time for Father’s Day.

Widely thought of as the best (and priciest) beef in the world, Aldi is making this superior meat both affordable and accessible to customers for a limited time only and while stocks last.

Aldi’s Specially Selected Wagyu Rib Eye and Specially Selected Sirloin Steaks will sell for a mere £7.29 for 227g (8oz) compared to a typical upmarket restaurant price of £40 per 100g* where it would cost £90.80 to enjoy the same size steak.

Aldi Specially Selected Wagyu Steaks come from cattle that are both bred and 100% grass-fed on open New Zealand pastures to give the meat a distinctive rich flavour and texture. It also gives it a good coverage of marbling, which allows the steak to become tender and succulent when the fat is imparted into the meat.

Tony Baines, Joint Managing Director of Corporate Buying at Aldi, said, “By sourcing from only the finest Wagyu producers in New Zealand, Aldi continues to offer unique and premium quality at everyday low prices, providing customers with significant savings without compromise.”

Aldi has worked with the finest farmers in New Zealand for over two years to offer customers the very best and distinctive taste of Wagyu.  The beef is from cattle raised outdoors in New Zealand and unlike Wagyu cattle raised in other countries, such as Australia and America, New Zealand cattle are grass fed and reared outdoors.

Over the last 12 months, Aldi sold a staggering 1.5 million Specially Selected Wagyu Beef Burgers (awarded Silver at Grocer Own Label Awards 2016) and with 50,000 steaks being made available to customers from June, the supermarket is set to become the largest retailer of Wagyu Beef in the UK in 2016.

Demand is expected to be unprecedented and a limit of two steaks per purchase has been placed to ensure that as many customers as possible get to enjoy this very special meat.
The Specialbuy Wagyu steaks are available in stores, throughout the UK, from Thursday 16th June, while stocks last, so be quick because when it’s gone, it’s gone!
