Last night, discount supermarket Aldi beat off stiff competition to once again win the prestigious ‘Supermarket of the Year’ accolade at the esteemed Retail Industry Awards, judged by an independent panel of industry experts.

The supermarket was also named ‘Fresh Produce Retailer of the Year’ and ‘Fresh Flower Retailer of the Year’ at the 21st annual awards, outperforming competitors Waitrose, Asda, The Co-operative and Marks & Spencer. The award wins follow Aldi’s recent announcement declaring its major new £300m investment plan in stores across the UK.

Aldi won more awards than ever before, making 2016 the retailer’s most successful year at the Retail Industry Awards. 2016 has been an impressive year overall for awards for Aldi, with other notable wins including ‘Grocer of the Year’ at the Grocer Gold Awards and ‘Multiple Retailer of the Year’ at the FPC Fresh Awards.

The Retail Industry Awards, one of the most prestigious in the country, awarded Aldi in recognition for its various achievements and longstanding commitment to delivering products of the highest quality at the best possible price to its customers.

Jonathan Neale, Joint Managing Director of Corporate Buying, Aldi UK, said: “We are thrilled to have won ‘Supermarket of the Year’, ‘Fresh Produce’ and ‘Fresh Flower Retailer of the Year’ at the Retail Industry Awards this year. The recognition from industry experts is testament to our team’s dedication to putting our customers first and provides consumers with the assurance that Aldi is the best supermarket in Britain.

“We remain committed to offering our customers the highest quality products at everyday low prices, and as we continue to open new stores, we hope more and more people throughout the UK will choose to come to us for their full weekly shop.”
