Matthew Barnes creates his own Christmas baubles to inspire shoppers

Matthew Barnes, Aldi’s UK CEO, has lent his support and creativity to boost the discount supermarket’s Baubles for Barnardo’s Christmas campaign.

Aldi has created a unique Barnardo’s Baubles Kit (£1.99) to support the charity in its 150th year. Each pack includes six, yet-to-be decorated, round or heart-shaped ceramic baubles with a pack of paint pots, glitter and string.  The baubles go on sale in stores and online on 27th October, with 100% of profits going to Aldi’s charity of the year, Barnardo’s, to help the most disadvantaged children across the UK.

Matthew Barnes has a design of his own to help raise awareness of the Baubles for Barnardo’s kit and encourage parents and children to give their Christmas trees the personal touch.

Matthew comments: “We’ve created this Christmas baubles kit as part of our on-going support for Barnardo’s, which is celebrating its 150th anniversary this year.

“This is a fun activity that the family can get involved in this Christmas, and do some good for a very worthy charity, so we’re hoping everyone will join in and help us raise as much money as possible.”

Matthew joins an illustrious list of talented stars to have designed a bauble including Rio 2016 presenter, Helen Skelton.  Helen has crafted six fun and festive baubles reflecting her own family life.  “They’re fun to paint and I love that you can personalise them,” says Helen.  “I based one design on my son’s footprints!”

Barnardo’s chief executive, Javed Khan said: “The festive season is a joyful time for most families, but for some it’s a very difficult time of the year. Some disadvantaged families, who we work with, may not be able to afford to join in the fun in the way most people take for granted.

“We are delighted to be a charity partner with Aldi. The money raised by sales of the Barnardo’s Baubles Kit will help ensure we are always here for the most disadvantaged children, young people and families.”

Aldi’s Baubles for Barnardo’s kit  is available to buy in stores and online on 27th October, and as with all Specialbuys, once they’re gone, they’re gone!
