Posh cross what? This Easter, discount supermarket Aldi has upped the ante with an innovative twist on a traditional family favourite; introducing Specially Selected Brioche Hot Cross Buns. Dubbed ‘The Posh Cross Bun’, these delicious buns will grace the shelves of Aldi from 6th April and will be available for just 99p!
They may look like regular hot cross buns on the outside, but on tasting these indulgently sweet and rich brioche buns are packed full of juicy sultanas, raisins and currants that add to the moreish taste that makes you want to reach for a second, third… (and fourth).
With enthusiastic Brits devouring over 105 million brioche products in 2016*, the love affair with the sweet French bread is growing and Aldi is leading the charge selling up to 16 times more Brioche than the likes of Waitrose and Marks & Spencer**.
With growing popularity, Aldi’s brioche range accounted for over 37%** of sweet bread UK sales in 2016.
Tony Baines, Joint Managing Director of Corporate Buying at Aldi UK, said: “The British public are seeking finer quality, luxury foods and we are responding to this by continually looking at our ranges and introducing new and innovative products, like the Specially Selected Brioche Hot Cross Buns, to appeal to customers.”
Aldi’s Specially Selected Brioche Hot Cross Buns are boldly indulgent. Give your traditional brunch a succulent twist by layering Specially Selected Smoked Salmon on top of a toasted Specially Selected Brioche Hot Cross Bun and finish with a perfectly poached egg for a luxurious take on Eggs Royale.
