·         Aldi launches new range of Upcycling tools and equipment
·         Upcycling trend continues to grow with upcyclers profiting from the boom
·         Range includes all the essentials needed to transform a piece of furniture
Discount supermarket Aldi is helping Brits breathe new life into old items of furniture and save a tidy sum in the process, with the launch of its new Upcycling range.
The upcycling trend became mainstream in the early 2000’s and has since gone from strength to strength with DIY-ers upcycling items of furniture for their own use or to sell for a profit.
According to one online marketplace, the number of products tagged as ‘upcycled’ shot from 7,900 in 2010 to 216,024 in 2014[i]. The trend shows no signs of slowing with a leading classifieds website recently reporting a 50% increase in upcyclers using the platform to sell their wares in the past year[ii] - and now Aldi is giving Brits the chance to try their hand at this trend with its new range, available in stores from 30th July.
Tony Baines, Managing Director for Corporate Buying at Aldi comments: “Upcycling is a fantastic trend which gives home improvers the opportunity to create unique and personal items.
“We know that the special tools, paints, and equipment needed to upcycle a piece of furniture can be expensive so we’re delighted to be offering a range of great-value upcycling essentials at a fraction of the price consumers might expect, without sacrificing on quality or performance.”
Aldi’s new range includes everything budding upcyclers will need to transform a dilapidated dresser into a stunning kitchen centrepiece, from electrical power tools including a Mini Bench Grinder (£26.99) and handheld Detail Sander (£19.99) to other essentials such as Chalk Furniture Paint (£4.99) and No Bristle Loss Brush Pack (£2.99).
Baines continues: “Whether a seasoned upcycling pro or a complete beginner, we urge shoppers to think twice before throwing away that old chair or dated desk, and consider the potential the piece might have. We hope that this range will give our customers the opportunity to recycle unsightly old items of furniture into prettier pieces, worthy of a place in their homes.”
Lovers of all things vintage can complete the look with Aldi’s Vintage Home range, also on sale from 30th July, with products including a Vintage Style DAB & FM Radio (£34.99) and a Vintage Design Rug (£9.99) – the perfect pieces to complement a newly upcycled piece of furniture.
Both ranges will be available in stores nationwide and online from 30th July, but be quick because, as with all Specialbuys, once it's gone it's gone!
