Aldi expands online offering
11 Mar 2016

Aldi today begins selling its popular Specialbuys range online.

The move follows the successful launch in January of an eCommerce platform selling Aldi’s award-wining range of wines at www.aldi.co.uk.

Initially, more than 90 types of wine from Aldi’s award-winning range were available online. From today, customers will also be able to order and take delivery of the supermarket’s popular Specialbuys, a range of non-food items sold at unbeatable prices. Customers will need to be quick though, as once they’re gone, they’re gone.

Amongst the Specialbuy items being sold online are the Ambiano Nutrient Blender, Dyson Handheld Vacuum and the Gardenline Petrol Lawnmower. Other upcoming Specialbuys include the DIY Workshop and Caravanning events, with products such as a 50 Litre Air Compressor and Garmin Camper Caravan Sat Nav which will be available to purchase from Sunday 13th and Thursday 17th March respectively.

In the seven weeks since its launch, Aldi’s eCommerce platform is performing very well so far, attracting around one million users each week, with a significant proportion of users based in London and the South East of England.

Jonathan Neale, Joint Managing Director of Buying at Aldi, said: “People told us they were excited by the prospect of being able to buy our wines online and that sentiment has been reflected in the surge of visitors to our website, with many of the orders coming from areas of Britain that don’t currently have many Aldi stores.

“Now with the launch of our non-food Specialbuys, people can buy online from another popular range which, like our award-winning wines, sets us apart from our competitors.

“There is also no let-up in our physical store-opening programme. We have pledged to open more than 80 new supermarkets during 2016, with 4 openings already since the turn of the year.

“We are continuing to respond to the demand from customers and bringing Aldi to more people across the UK, increasing our market share in the process.”

Aldi operates over 630 stores in the UK and is on track to reach 1,000 stores by 2022.

Aldi’s online service is available to consumers throughout the UK, with the exception of Northern Ireland.

An introductory offer of free standard delivery will apply for a limited time only on both wine and Specialbuy products.
