Supermarket Aldi has gone the distance to ensure that children missing out on their end-of-year fun don’t have to sacrifice the most highly anticipated event of the school calendar year – Sports Day!
Taking place over three days, Aldi will be marking Wednesday 1st to Friday 3rdJuly as the UK’s official Sports Days, challenging families across the country to take on three of the country’s best Team GB Olympic athletes in a host of iconic Sports Day events, virtually!
Setting the bar for the nation to rise to, Olympic bronze medallist and gymnast Nile Wilson, Olympic silver medallist and Taekwondo athlete Lutalo Muhammed andsport climber Shauna Coxsey will each take over Aldi’s Facebook page at 11am over the three days to put the scores on the doors as they attempt activities including the Egg and Spoon Race, Bean Bag Toss, Wheelbarrow Race and the great leveller, the Three-Legged Race.
Whether children are getting involved in their lounge, garden, or nearest park, there’s guaranteed to be no shortage of healthy competition as they get their sweat on.
Shauna Coxsey, Team GB Sport Climber comments: “As a competitive kid, Sports Day was always my highlight of the year when I was at school. It’s gutting to think that so many children are going to miss out on the chance to create those memories that I cherish, which is why I jumped at the chance to get involved with Aldi’s Sports Days”.
Each of the daily sessions will be hosted on the @AldiUK Facebook page, opening with a five minute warm up to ensure all competitors are stretched and ready to go before the main event.
What’s more, if the idea of taking on a Team GB superstar wasn’t enough, competitors who share images and videos of their attempt will also be in with a chance to eat and fuel like an Olympian, as the best efforts will give them a chance to win a £50 Aldi voucher.
Julie Ashfield, Managing Director of Buying at Aldi UK, said: “At Aldi, we pride ourselves on supporting families. With recent data showing that three in four children are doing less than 30 minutes of physical activity each day, it’s more important than ever that we keep our bodies moving. We are looking forward to seeing the nation unite together over Britiain’s most-loved Sports Day activities and you never know, this might even be the making of future generations of Team GB athletes!”.
