Supermarket, Aldi, welcomes its anticipated Autumn Winter Wine Range to stores nationwide from today.
With almost 90% of the 145 wines being under £10, shoppers will be delighted to hear it’s the supermarket’s biggest and most affordable range yet.
What’s more, the latest offering from Aldi includes delights such as the velvety Toscana Rosso, smooth Argentinian Merlot, and jammy Lisbon Red, saving wine fans up to 94% compared to alternatives such as Tignanello by Antinori andPorta 6.
Having been crowned ‘Cheapest Supermarket of the Year’ by consumer champion Which?[1], Aldi has claimed its status as the go-to destination for outstanding quality wines at unbelievably low prices – and this year’s range includes purse friendly alternatives to popular styles and flavours available now.
Julie Ashfield, Managing Director of Buying at Aldi UK, says: “This new seasonal wine range is our biggest yet and includes some great value alternatives to other competitors in the market. This means shoppers can get fantastic quality wines at accessible price points throughout the autumn and winter – just in time for Christmas.”
Mistress of Wine, Sam Caporn, says: “Aldi’s new range showcases a huge array of affordable delights from eclectic blends as seen in the Australian Chardonnay and Grüner Veltliner, to the deliciously unusual South African Fernão Pires or the soft and easy Gamay Rouge. There really is something for every palate, purse, and occasion.”
Sam shares her top vino picks from the range – all for under £10:
Specially Selected Toscana Rosso (£9.99, 75cl)
A region responsible for producing first-rate wines, this garnet red from Tuscany boasts appealing aromas of spice, red and black cherries, with notes of dark plums, mulberries, and a twist of dark chocolate on the finish. Whilst this tipple is priced at just £9.99 a bottle, some wines from the illustrious and venerable region go for a whopping £169.99 – like Meghan Markle’s favourite vino, Tignanello by Antinori.[2]
Mimo Moutinho Lisbon Red (£6.29, 75cl)
A Portuguese delight, this wine boasts rich notes of plums, cherries, blueberries, and blackberries. With a hint of cherry blossom on the finish, this soft and easy-drinking tipple is a perfect autumn red. Priced at just £6.29, shoppers can save almost 33% compared to alternative brand Porta 6[1] – saúde!
Specially Selected Argentinian Cabernet Sauvignon (£6.99, 75cl)
Deliciously youthful yet medium-bodied, this pleasant and easy-drinking red offers notes of plum, raspberry, cherries, and mint with peppery tannins on the finish. A versatile tipple that pairs perfectly with fajitas or roast lamb.
Specially Selected Argentinian Merlot (£7.99, 75cl)
Transporting tastebuds to Argentina’s award-winning Uco Valley, this youthful but medium-bodied red offers aromas of raspberry, blueberry, red and black cherries with a hint of plum. With well-integrated mocha spicy notes and smooth, fine tannins.
South African Fernão Pires (£8.99, 75cl)
Portugal meets South Africa with this light and fruity tipple from the Western Cape vineyards. A native Portuguese variety that has already won a SILVER and BRONZE accolade at the Decanter World Wine Awards[1] and International Wine Challenge[2], this unique wine offers intriguing aromatics of white pepper, plums, nectarine, and mango for a flavoursome and textured finish.
Specially Selected Chassaux et Fils Gamay Rouge (£8.99, 75cl)
Ripe and pungent, this vibrant and youthful red boasts notes of wild strawberries, red cherries and raspberries that are reminiscent of a juicy winter berry pudding – a delicious pairing with duck breast and charcuterie spreads.
Specially Selected Cotes de Provence Blanc (£9.99, 75cl)
A light to medium-bodied white with a pretty lemon colour, this wine gives delicate aromas of nuts, apricot stone and acacia blossom that meet flavours of honeysuckle with lemony acidity and a pleasing texture.
