ALDI NOW UK #1 FOR OWN BRAND PET FOOD

  • Latest Kantar data shows that pet owners are switching more of their purchasing to Aldi than any other supermarket[1]

The UK’s cheapest supermarket Aldi has now become top dog, as it is revealed to be the country’s biggest-selling own brand pet food retailer.  According to the latest Kantar data, shoppers are switching more of their pet care spending to Aldi than any other supermarket, as cash-conscious Brits seek out better value pet food as the cost-of-living squeeze continues.  Offering quality ingredients without the premium price tag, it’s not hard to see why one in four[2] packs of own label pet food now come from Aldi.

Research has shown pet ownership increased to 59% in 2021/22 compared to 45% in 2011 as the pandemic saw the rise of the ‘lockdown pet’[3]. With the UK home to an estimated 12 million dogs and 12 million cats, Aldi is here to lend a paw to animal lovers, ensuring shoppers can nourish their pets for less.

The retailer has seen more than 50% growth in sales year on year[4], with the biggest rise in sales in Scotland.

The news of Aldi’s success comes as 78% of pet owners believe the cost of living crisis will affect their animals – while 19% are worried about how they’ll afford to feed their pets[5]

Julie Ashfield, Managing Director of Buying at Aldi, commented: “As the cost of living crisis continues, we promise to provide our customers with the best quality products for less, and this includes food for furry family members. We know that shoppers are worried about providing for their pets and want to reassure them that they can continue to feed them top quality food without breaking the bank. Our wide range of cat and dog food focuses on nutritional value, while maintaining low prices, so owners can be sure their pets are getting the very best.”

For shoppers looking to treat their pet for less, Aldi’s Earl’s range of dog food and treats offers meaty strips that support immune systems or dry dog food made with no artificial colours or flavours. Whilst Aldi’s Langham range is perfect for a pampered pooch – enriched with essential vitamins, minerals and fats, this grain free food is perfect for the most sensitive of stomachs.

For feline friends, shoppers can choose from Aldi’s Vitacat and Vitacat Selects ranges. A single serving treat, the Vitacat Gourmet Mousse is available for just 55p – or for a healthy balanced meal, Aldi’s Vitacat Selects premium selections aim to promote a healthy skin and coat.

Aldi’s Pet Food is available in store and via Click and Collect now.
