  • The supermarket blows competitors Waitrose, Co-op and Sainsbury’s out of the water with more than double the number of medals.

The wins just keep coming for Aldi’s world-renowned wine range, with a landslide 80 medals received at the 2021 International Wine Challenge adding yet more bling to the supermarket’s extensive trophy case.

With the staggering 80 awards including two gold and 29 silver medals, Aldi blew other leading supermarkets such as Waitrose, Co-op and Sainsbury’s out of the water, receiving more than double the number of awards of Waitrose’s far pricier offering.

One wine in particular shone through for the judges, receiving the highest commendation with a gold medal. The Pinot Vigilante Central Otago Pinot Noir (£9.99) is a crowd pleasing medium bodied red and wowed the judgescoming out best in show for not only taste and quality but value for money.

The International Wine Challenge is a global competition that pits a wide range of wines from established supermarkets around the world against each other in a series of extensive taste tests, with 25 years of experience in tasting, comparing and assessing products to judge the best in class wines.

And this isn’t the first time Aldi’s wine range has been given the seal of approval by experts. In the last 12 months alone, Aldi’s wines received over 230 medals, including 20 golds, cleaning up in a host of renowned awards. Aldi currently holds the title of Best Wine Retailer with four of the most prestigious awarding bodies in the industry including Good Housekeeping, Drinks Retailing Awards, IWSC and Retail Industry Awards.
