It’s grills at the ready as Aldi has established itself as the place to shop this BBQ season, scooping a series of awards for its BBQ range. The affordable retailer beat other more expensive supermarkets to the top spot in a number of categories at the BBC Good Food Awards, including Best Burger.
The Specially Selected The Ultimate Burger (340g, £2.69), which is made with 100% British Beef, was crowned as Best Burger at the BBC Good Food Awards. The tender patty also took first place at the Olive Awards, beating rival M&S’ burgers, which at £4.50[1] are nearly double the price. Judges praised Aldi’s burger describing it as: “a juicy, highly savoury burger with a good flavour and texture”.

Proving it has something for everyone, Aldi also won Best Vegan Burger with its Plant Menu 2 Ultimate No Beef Burgers (227g, £1.99). High in protein, these meat-free delights are 60% cheaper than its rival Beyond Meat[2], so shoppers can enjoy the perfect plant-based patty without having to spend a pretty penny.
Aldi’s winning streak extends beyond its burgers, as the supermarket also proved it has the best kebabs this summer. Aldi’s Ashfields Grill Sweet Chilli Jam Beef Kebabs (400g, £2.69) took joint first place (alongside Iceland) in the Best Meat Kebab category at the Olive Awards. The experienced food tasting panel noted how “the chilli jam adds pleasing sweetness and plenty of fragrant spices to these simple kebabs.”
While over at the Good Housekeeping Institute Awards Aldi’s Ashfield Grill Garlic & Rosemary Lamb Kebabs, 320g, (£2.99), scored an impressive 83/100.Judges wrote: “Our winning lamb kebab (and best budget buy) scored highly with our panel, thanks to its flavourful medley of fresh mint, roasted garlic and mature British lamb mince.”
Among the other Aldi winners – and a great way to finish off your BBQ is an array of affordable, quality sides, including the creamy Specially Selected Coleslaw (300g, 99p) andmelt in the mouth Specially Selected Hot Dog Rolls (6 Pack, £1.09) which took the titles of Best Coleslaw and Best Hotdog Bun at the BBC Good Food Awards respectively. Serve with Aldi’s succulent Specially Selected Top Dogs (£1.99, 400g).
