ALDI CREATES NEW RECIPE PAGE TO HELP SHOPPERS GET A VARIED FIVE-A-DAY

29 January, 2024

Aldi is on a mission to get the nation out of a fruit and veg rut after new research revealed a quarter (24%) of Brits buy the same produce items every week.

The UK’s cheapest supermarket has compiled a set of recipes to inspire the nation when cooking which it will continue to add to with new recipes throughout the year.

In a poll of 2,000 UK adults commissioned by Aldi, nearly half of adults (43%) said they feel they are ‘stuck in a rut’ when it comes to thinking of more exciting recipes for mealtimes.

Buying the same produce week after week was put down to a ‘force of habit’ for many (37%), with 35% saying they are simply more comfortable cooking with familiar items.

The research also revealed how nearly seven in 10 (68%) will always buy bananas and potatoes, with more than half (55%) saying they always ensure apples and onions are in their basket.

Meanwhile butternut squash, pomegranate, and aubergines are at the bottom of these lists, with things like kale, asparagus, avocados and cherries also featuring low down.

From soy baked aubergines to kale, leek, and sweetcorn pancakes, Aldi’s new recipe page aims to offer low-cost and nutritional ideas to help shoppers break out of their comfort zones.

Julie Ashfield, Managing Director of Buying at Aldi, said: “It is easy to get stuck in a rut when it comes to our regular food shop, which is why many people choose to opt for the same produce time and time again.

“At Aldi we are all about making healthy and varied diets affordable for all, with a large range of high quality produce available in our stores at the lowest possible prices.

“With our simple and low-cost recipes, we hope to inspire customers to change up their usual five-a-day, whilst also incorporating a number of home grown produce into their meals.”
