New analysis from consumer champion Which? has named Aldi the UK’s cheapest supermarket for a full 12 months, with its latest win for October 2026, based on a basket of 87 popular grocery items[1].
Even after loyalty discounts were applied, shoppers would still have paid £27.43 more at Tesco (priced £181.77) and £28.56 more at Sainsbury’s (priced £182.90). Morrisons was £32.43 more expensive at £186.77, while Waitrose was a whopping £61.53more, with the same basket costing £215.87.
The result continues Aldi’s winning run in 2026, having topped the Which? rankings for a whole year – building on its recognition as Cheapest Supermarket of the Year for 2025[2].
The retailer was also named Which?’s ‘Best Value Brand of the Year’, recognised for consistently delivering strong quality at low prices[3].
Julie Ashfield, Chief Commercial Officer at Aldi UK, said: “We are thrilled to be crowned the UK’s cheapest supermarket for a full year. We know that the festive season can be an expensive time of year, which is why so many families are starting their preparations early to help spread the cost.
