Lewis Capaldi surprises shoppers with rooftop gig on top of Nottingham Aldi and performs new hit single ‘Something in the Heavens’
Shoppers doing their weekly shop were left stunned when Lewis Capaldi popped up on the roof of their local Aldi – rebranding the store “Cap-Aldi” with a giant cardboard ‘Cap’ taped to the sign before breaking into an impromptu gig.
The set, which took place a few days after his new single, ‘Something in the Heavens’ was released, left local shoppers amazed as the internationally acclaimed singer songwriter took to the roof of their local store to delight them with his soaring vocals.
Lewis Capaldi unveiled the brand-new single ‘Something In The Heavens’ with a teaser of the track dropping just ahead of his current sold-out UK arena tour this month.
Capaldi performed his new single alongside ‘Survive’ and the momentous ‘Someone You Loved’, sending Aldi customers into a frenzy as they realised their weekly shop had turned into a once-in-a-lifetime gig.
The surprise show comes during his triumphant return to the stage after a two-year break. Already blazing through a monumental 200,000-ticket sold-out UK arena tour – hailed by fans and critics alike as nothing short of spectacular – Capaldi is once again proving his power to connect, with rapturous crowds already singing back every word of his latest anthems.
And he’s not stopping there, with worldwide gigs later this year, and his biggest-ever UK and Irish headline shows confirmed for summer 2026. Kicking off at Dublin’s Marlay Park on June 23rd 2026, Capaldi will play twelve huge outdoor shows including two headline performances at London’s 65,000-capacity BST Hyde Park on Saturday, July 11th & 12th.
Lewis himself said, “This is Capaldi on the roof of an Aldi. Sorry to get in the way of anyone’s shopping. I was back there earlier, some excellent produce, brioche buns, carrots – the lot.”
Julie Ashfield, Chief Commercial Officer at Aldi UK, said: “It doesn’t get more heavenly than Lewis Capaldi on the roof of an Aldi – it feels like this moment was written in the stars. Our customers were treated to something truly unforgettable, and Lewis turned an ordinary day into supermarket history.”
