New analysis from consumer champion Which? has named Aldi as the UK’s cheapest supermarket for June 2026, based on a basket of 95 popular grocery items. The accolade secures an unbeaten run for Aldi across the first half of this year
Even when loyalty discounts are taken into account, shoppers would still have paid much less at Aldi than for the same shop at Tesco (£194.67), Sainsbury’s (priced £193.30), or Lidl (£164.79). Meanwhile, Waitrose came in at a staggering £67 more than Aldi at £229.88.
The win continues Aldi’s formidable run of results in 2026, after topping the Which? rankings every month of the first half of the year and further reinforcing its crown as Cheapest Supermarket of the Year for 20251.
The retailer was also recently named Which? ‘Best Value Brand of the Year’, recognised for consistently delivering strong quality at low prices2.
Julie Ashfield, Chief Commercial Officer at Aldi UK, said:“Being named Which?’s Cheapest Supermarket for the entire first half of this year is fantastic recognition of our unwavering commitment to offering customers the very best value. As families enjoy the World Cup together this summer and look to stretch their budgets, these results prove they can save hundreds of pounds by switching to Aldi without compromising on quality.”
