  • Travis Elvin, 11, beat hundreds of hopefuls to become one of Aldi’s Easter chocolate tasters
  • The role will involve reviewing Aldi’s Easter eggs, with feedback helping the supermarket’s buying team for next year’s range
  • Travis, who has ambitions to be a future chocolatier, has called the role his ‘ultimate dream job’ with Dad John saying ‘if there were ever a job for Travis – this is it!’

Travis Elvin, 11, from Dinnington, Sheffield has landed the egg-citing role of Aldi’s Chief Easter Egg Tasting Officer, beating hundreds of hopeful applicants up and down the country.

The competition, which opened for applications via Aldi’s social media on the 6th March, saw hundreds of chocoholics across the nation share audition videos explaining why they were right for ‘the world’s sweetest job’.

To land the role, Travis, who as well as being a chocolate lover is a keen golfer, footballer and guitar player, submitted a video entry in which he not only called out his favourite Aldi chocolates, including the Dairyfine Chocolate Buttons, but discussed ambitions to be a chocolatier in the future.

Travis said: “When I grow up, I’d love to be a chocolatier. Last year I took part in a chocolate making activity in York, and also learnt about the history of it. Therefore, I’d love to see the other side of the chocolate world.”

Judges were wowed by the entry, calling it ‘charming’, with Travis displaying ‘an obvious penchant for chocolate’.

Travis, along with three other lucky winners, including sister duo 8 and 10-year-old Anya & Thea O’Shea from Cambridge and Siné Babenia, 34 from Essex, received a selection of free Aldi Easter eggs to taste.

The range, which starts from just 49p, includes the eye-catching Sundae Egg, a Giant Crocodile Egg, and shopper favourite Peanut Butter Surprise Egg. In exchange for these eggceptional goodies, the Chief Easter Egg Tasting Officers will feedback their all-important reviews of the range.

On landing the role, Travis, who is an only child, said: “I can’t believe this is real and that I have been selected. I can’t wait to sample Aldi’s new chocolate range and taste all the new flavours. I am also really looking forward to giving feedback on their chocolate, which I am sure will all be amazing.”

Travis’ Dad, John Elvin, said: “When we told Travis about the competition, he wanted to create and upload his video straight away. He has always had a love of anything chocolate and loves tasting different flavours and varieties. If there was ever an ideal job for Travis, this is it!”

Travis’ Mum, Dawn Elvin, said: “Travis is over the moon to have been selected as Aldi’s Chief Easter Egg Taster. It’s the first time he has entered anything like this, so you can imagine his excitement when he was told that he’d been chosen – we’re all just so thrilled for him!”

Julie Ashfield, Managing Director of Buying at Aldi UK, said: “We received hundreds of applicants for this year’s Chief Easter Egg Tasting roles, but Travis’ huge passion for chocolate really stood out.

“Our Easter eggs are hugely popular, but we always value the opinion of our customers and their families. Travis’ reviews will not only provide invaluable feedback, but also inspire new and innovative products that may well appear in next year’s line-up.”

To try this year’s Easter egg selection, shoppers should head to Aldi stores or order via Click and Collect now.
