ALDI LAUNCHES BIGGEST EVER RANGE OF ROSÉ WINE FOR SUMMER

  • Aldi has cemented its reputation as a destination for great rosé wine, selling over 12 million bottles annually
  • The supermarket has partnered with Mistress of Wine Sam Caporn to curate top picks from the selection, along with food pairing suggestions
  • Wine expert, Caporn, says when it comes to matching rosé with food, it is the only wine for which there are NO rules

Aldi comes bearing good news as it announces the launch of its hotly anticipated wine collection, Spring Summer Rosé. After selling over 12 million bottles of the pink tipple last year, the new 2022 range, on sale now and featuring 21 new rosé wines, is set to be its biggest and best yet – not to mention the bargains to be had.

From shopper favourite Prosecco Rosé, beautiful Provence Rosé for a bargain price, plus some more unusual but equally delicious tipples from the likes of Hungary and Mount Etna, there truly is something for everyone in Aldi’s latest line up. What’s more, prices start from just £5.29.

Despite its sharp rise in popularity[1], rosé can often be overlooked when it comes to food and wine pairings, but shoppers shouldn’t disregard its ability to beautifully balance the components of a dish.

Wine expert and the face of Aldi Wine School, Sam Caporn, advises that the beauty of rosé is its unique ability to successfully pair with almost any food.

She says: “Enjoying a glass of rosé in the sun is symbolic of summertime fun and the one rule when it comes to pink wine is…there are no rules!

“If you fancy adding ice, go for it. If you want to sip it while eating fish, or chicken, or a big juicy burger, there’s no need to worry about grape variety.

“BUT – there are some food options that pair particularly well, and I’ve curated a list based on Aldi’s new range, picking a rosé colour option for all preferences. Chill, and enjoy!”

Zamat Hungarian Pink Chardonnay 2021 (£5.49, 75cl)

Available in-store from July

Yes, that’s right, Hungarian wine. Aldi is all about showing off wines from lesser know regions, particularly those excelling in quality and taste – and this new addition is no exception. Pale and delicate in colour, this bottle flaunts subtle aromas of lemon drops, apple and redcurrant. It is also dry, tangy and racy, with a raspberry bonbon finish.

Sam says: “You can’t beat pink wine and grilled prawns, it’s a natural combo that everyone deserves to try at least once in life. Pair this unique offering with prawn tacos with lime-avocado salsa and crunchy coleslaw, for a taste and texture sensation.”

Specially Selected Organic Etna Rosé 2021 (£8.99, 75cl)

Available in-store now

The Italians know a thing or two about producing a great tasting vino. This pretty, pink coloured tipple meets notes of strawberries, hibiscus, and red cherry, resulting in an elegant, dry, stylish wine with crisp acidity.

Sam says: “Delicate wines pair with delicate dishes. A classic Panzanella salad would suit this Italian rosé beautifully; ripe tomatoes, crusty sourdough, and extra virgin olive oil dressing, a truly complimentary combination on a summer’s evening.”

Specially Selected Coteaux de Béziers Rosé 2021 (£5.99, 75cl)

Available in-store now

This pretty, pale pink blush will whisk you away to a balcony in Southern France with just one sip. Normally a good Provence will seriously set shoppers back, but Aldi has come up with this cracker for just £6.99. With hints of redcurrants, pear, raspberry and apricot, the palate is dry and elegant with lemon acidity and a subtle strawberry finish.

Sam says: “Those who haven’t yet tried the classic French seafood dish, Bouillabaisse, absolutely have to with a glass of this rosé. Although not always the case, it’s true that one Provençal classic will always spark magic when served with a fellow native, and this is just that!”

Organic Prosecco Rosé 2021 (£8.49, 75cl)

Available in-store and online now

Shoppers can expect plenty of thirst-quenching ripe pear, watermelon, and apricot on the palate. This is a fun and bubbly rose petal coloured fizz, with a just off-dry cherry finish. Mwah.

Sam says: “Anyone looking for an excuse to whip up an Eton Mess, now is the time! This crisp pink fizz is amazing with a summer berry-based dessert; an off-dry wine perfectly complements red fruit”.
