ALDI PREDICTS RECORD SALES AS BRITS PREPARE FOR ROYAL KNEES UP

• Supermarket expects to sell more than 30 quiches every minute this week
• Sales of scones set to soar by +150%, while jam, clotted cream, and Coronation chicken sales expected to jump by +40%
• Aldi shoppers will raise an incredible 4.2 million glasses of gin and 1.4 million glasses of Austins to celebrate new King

Brits are gearing up for a celebratory weekend as the country prepares to welcome a new King, according to supermarket Aldi.

Sales indicate more than 30 quiches will be sold every minute in the run up to the Big Day, after the King and Queen Consort chose the classic British fare as signature dish for celebrations on 6^th May.

The quintessential scone will also take centre stage at street party spreads, with Aldi set to sell up to more than a whopping 170 scones every minute. Brits will also be stocking up jam and clotted cream with both expected to see sales spike by at least +40%.

Other foods Brits are turning to as they gather for celebrations include Coronation Chicken* which is expected to see sales increase by +40%. The supermarket has also doubled orders of Coronation Chicken sandwiches.

But of course – no royal party is complete without a ceremonial tipple. And Aldi shoppers are set to enjoy a whopping 4.2 million G&Ts and 1.4 million glasses of Austin’s – the supermarket’s value alternative to Pimms.  (Aldi’s Austin’s is currently reduced to £6.99, down from £7.49, saving shoppers 57% compared to Pimms).

Julie Ashfield, Managing Director of Buying at Aldi UK, says: “The King’s Coronation is set to be one of the most iconic moments in history and we know many will be gathering to celebrate.

“There is plenty of quiche, scones and award-winning gin on Aldi’s shelves for our shoppers to enjoy at incredible value – and there’s still enough time to stock up before the Big Day.”

The news comes as Aldi partners with Anita Atkinson, the UK’s biggest Royal fan, to give her ‘royalist’ seal of approval on the supermarket’s brand-new Coronation range. From Coronation Chicken Pizza, Coronation Sandwiches and Union Jack Cakes, to refreshing British Strawberry Gin and Coronation Beers, there is something for everyone, royal or not, to celebrate.

Shoppers can get their hands on the royalist-approved range, tried and tested by Anita, in stores now with prices starting from just 95p.
