Over half of the nation will be using social media to help inspire their Halloween look this year, with a further four in five parents expected to try their hand at SFX for their kids’ spooky looks, according to a study from supermarket Aldi.

Aldi has enlisted the help of viral SFX makeup artist, EllaDoesFX, to help inspire spook-tacular looks for Halloween 2025, which is the majority (70%) of Gen Z’s favourite time of year.

This year, nearly half (45%) of Brits will be looking to tie cultural moments into their Halloween outfits to stand out from the crowd, and a further 53% are prepared to go to whackier extremes than ever before, with everyday food items, and household products inspiring 51% of the nation’s looks.

Aldi and makeup artist, EllaDoesFX, have jumped on this trend by utilising the supermarket’s fan-favourite Professor Peppy to create a Halloween look to inspire trick or treaters wanting to spook out their neighbours with their makeover.

Professor Peppy is a favourite product amongst Aldi shoppers, with fans referring to the drink on social media as ‘the GOAT’ and ‘the best brand Aldi has made’. The popularity of the drink inspired the supermarket’s latest Halloween look.

According to the research, (83%) parents will be using materials like fake blood, latex and paint to create wounds, scars and zombified effects. A further 69% will be using foods from home, like ketchup, to help perfect their spooky looks.

Others are turning to 3D effects such as hidden LED strips, creepy crawly creatures and horns or wings to make their youngsters (or themselves) stand out from the crowd.

The time-honoured tradition of upcycling old clothes still stands in good stead, with 88% of Brits saying they will be scouring the depths of their wardrobe to repurpose old clothes for the big night.

When it comes to Halloween this year, families expect their kids to attend at least 2 parties during spooky season and believe they will spend on average, £60 on Halloween decorations and outfits. On average, Brits are expected to spend half a day (12 hours) on putting their Halloween look together.

Gen Z’ers and Millennials are prepared to spend on average a whopping £100 on their scary get ups, with nearly three-quarters (70%) of those aged under-30 stating that Halloween is their favourite time of year! A further 60% will be using social media for Halloween inspiration.
