Discounter Aldi has beaten all other supermarkets by scooping the most awards at the Great Taste Awards 2021 – the world’s largest and most trusted food and drink industry awards.
The supermarket racked up a staggering 58 accolades in total, including awards for a number of home-grown products.
Winning products from its British suppliers included Specially Selected Scotch Aberdeen Angus Ribeye Steak, Specially Selected Pork Loin Steaks, British Blue Eggs, Specially Selected Ultimate Sausage Rolls, Specially Selected Vintage Cheddar, Aldi Plant Menu Meatless Sausages and Specially Selected Caramelised Red Onion Chutney, which was awarded the top accolade of three prestigious stars.
The Great Taste Awards, organised by the Guild of Fine Food, is the acknowledged benchmark for fine food and drink. Expert judges, including top chefs, buyers and food writers make up the panel, which blind-tasted thousands of food and drink products in a rigorous judging process.
Aldi is committed to growing its British supply base, having announced earlier this year that increase the amount of food and drink it buys from British suppliers by £3.5bn a year within the next five years as it continues its rapid expansion across the UK.
Julie Ashfield, Managing Director of Buying at Aldi UK, said: “The Great Taste Awards are world’s largest and most trusted food and drink industry awards – and we’re thrilled to come out on top as the UK’s number one supermarket.
“It’s particularly pleasing to see that our commitment to quality has been once again recognised, and that the hard work of our British suppliers is being properly rewarded.”
