A 10-year-old boy who prefers Aldi to toy shops has been gifted more than 100 of the supermarket’s reusable bags.
Ollie Hingley developed an interest in the shopping bags after he saw his family use them at Christmas time last year.
His mother asked Aldi shoppers on a Facebook group to help grow his dozens-strong collection.
In response, the supermarket has sent him over 100 Aldi shopping bags, including a personalised bag, a number of limited-edition bags, and bags from Germany & Scotland.
Ollie goes to the supermarket at least twice a week with family members, said his mother Kelsey Hingley, 30. “He would go there every day if he could,” she said.
Ms Hingley said: “We’ve offered to take him to the toy shop, but he wants to go to Aldi.”
For his 10th birthday in July this year, Ollie received reusable bags from Aldi’s Scottish stores to add to his collection. His birthday cake was also decorated with mini reusable bags.
Ms Hingley said that Ollie – who has autism – wants to be the manager of his own Aldi when he grows up.
“Whenever he meets anyone, he asks do they shop at Aldi,” she said.
Even teachers at the school he attends have contributed reusable bags to his collection.
“We have tried a few different supermarkets, he always struggles with the fluorescent lights,” she said. At Aldi, ‘he just feels comfortable’.
Julie Ashfield, Managing Director of Buying at Aldi UK, says: “
At Aldi, we love hearing wonderful stories from our shoppers. Ollie’s story, in particular, touched us, so when we heard about his quest for Aldi carrier bags we wanted to do all we could to bring a smile to his face. We hope our very special carrier bag delivery helps to brighten Ollie’s day – as learning about him certainly brightened ours.”
