Ahead of British Pie Week (1-7 March), supermarket Aldi has announced it is launching a brand-new range of premium pies after seeing double digit pie growth over the past three months.
Aldi currently sells a staggering 25 fresh pies every minute, that’s 1,500 every hour!
Aldi’s new Specially Selected Gastro Collection Pies (£3.79, 500g) come in two delicious flavours: Steak and Chicken Leek & Bacon, which are a staggering £2.71 cheaper than the M&S equivalents, which are £6.50 a pie[1].
Landing on shelves across the North East, East Midlands and the South East on 10th February, they’re sure to get mouths watering… and if proven successful, they’ll be rolled out to all Aldi stores, so everyone can get a piece of the pie!
Aldi’s Gastro Collection Steak Pie is packed withmarinated slow cooked British beef, oak smoked bacon and beechwood smoked bacon, in a rich beef gravy encased in a beautifully buttery hand crimped pastry.
Aldi’s Gastro Collection Chicken, Leek & Bacon Pie sees an all-butter puff pastry stuffed with slow cooked British hand shredded chicken, smoked bacon and creamy leeks in a velvety sauce topped with an all butter puff pastry lid, hand crimped and sprinkled with poppy seeds to finish.
These meaty marvels will join Aldi’s best-selling pies, including its Specially Selected range of vegetarian pies, which launched earlier this year:
Specially Selected Feta, Spinach & Pine Nut Pie (V) (£1.69, 250g) tastes just like the Higgidy version, but at a fraction of the price[2]. Its wholemeal seeded pastry case is filled with cheddar cheese, feta and spinach in a savoury custard with cream and free-range egg, topped with feta cheese, red peppers and pine nuts. Delicious!
Specially Selected Vegan Rainbow Pie (VE) (£1.69, 250g); overflowing with colourful vegetables mixed into a spiced tomato and harissa sauce packed into a tomato and chilli shortcrust pastry case. Herbs and seeds are sprinkled on top to finish.
Specially Selected Cheese, Leek & Potato Pie (V) (£1.69, 250g) is a true classic. British potato, Taw Valley Cheddar cheese, Stilton cheese and creamy leeks in a savoury custard with cream and free-range egg fill out a shortcrust pastry case, topped with mature Cheddar cheese and breadcrumbs.
As if that wasn’t enough, following the success of its frozen pastry range, Aldi is adding two savoury additions just in time for summer: A Cheese and Onion Bake (85p, 194g) and a Sausage & Bean Melt (85p, 194g), as well as the return of the famous Bacon & Cheese Wrap (£1.29, 194g). As tasty as the Gregg’s version but friendlier on the purse strings, saving shoppers as much as 57%[3].
