Aldi has unveiled a giant topiary sculpture of its signature chocolate cake, Cuthbert.
A Christmas tree replica of Cuthbert was pictured doing the rounds in Brighton, visiting the pier and Royal Pavilion, before reaching its permanent home in front of an Aldi store in Eastbourne.
Cuthbert caused a stir during its Brighton tour, with the festive visit being snapped and shared on social media.
Decorated from head to toe in baubles and fairy lights and complete with a Santa hat and festive shoes, the topiary is an astounding 8ft tall and 12ft long.
Fans of the popular cake will be able to visit the topiary creation at the Aldi store on Pacific Drive in Eastbourne, which will remain its home from 18th-22nd December.
Julie Ashfield, Chief Commercial Officer at Aldi UK, said: “Cuthbert is an Aldi icon, so it only felt right we gave him a festive twist, swapping chocolate for topiary, baubles and fairy lights to spread the festive cheer.
“After letting him loose for a spot of Christmas sightseeing, he’s now settling into its new home at our Pacific Drive store in Eastbourne. We can’t wait for shoppers to come down, grab a photo and get into the Christmas spirit with him.”
Surprised shoppers arriving at the store this morning couldn’t believe their eyes when they saw the giant topiary creation. One shopper said: “A Christmas tree in the shape of Cuthbert…incredible!”
Another said: “A huge Cuthbert tree was not what I was expecting to see when I came to do my big Christmas shop this morning, but I’m here for it!”
Aldi’s Cuthbert Cake (£6.99, 625g) is available in stores now. The Cuthbert topiary structure can be found at the Aldi store on Pacific Drive, Eastbourne from 18th-22nd December.
