Aldi launches Special Ties, inspired by the celebrity style driving the fashion comeback
The office called. Gen Z stole its tie — and Aldi has created a limited-edition range to mark the accessory’s unlikely fashion comeback. From David Brent to Hailey Bieber, Britain’s most corporate accessory has had the ultimate glow-up.
For decades, the tie was the unofficial uniform of office workers, weddings and school assemblies. Now, thanks to celebrity style inspiration, the office staple has become this season’s unexpected must-have.
New research by the supermarket has revealed that more than four in ten Gen Z (41%) now wear ties as fashion accessories rather than just for formal occasions, while over half (57%) believe the tie has become significantly more stylish since it began re-emerging in 2026. With almost two thirds of Brits (65%) now owning a tie, seven in ten believe fashion rules are less strict than ever.
Led by style icons such as Harry Styles and Zendaya, a new generation is reclaiming the tie and pairing it with oversized shirts, miniskirts, baggy denim and trainers. In fact, 40% of Brits admit they have borrowed clothing from their dad’s, boyfriend’s or husband’s wardrobe before, while almost a quarter (23%) say they have been inspired by celebrity fashion.
With over a third of the nation (36%) saying they have worn the accessory on a night out or to dinner, and over half of Gen Z (53%) saying they are more likely to wear one socially than in the office, the necktie is officially no longer just a weekday accessory.
The tie tops the list of fashion items Brits say have made the biggest comeback in recent years, alongside other unexpected revivals:
Aldi is embracing the trend with a limited-edition collection of ties inspired by its iconic branding and some of its most-loved products, including Nordpak Slightly Salted Butter, Professor Peppy and Bramwells Baked Beans. Reimagining everyday Aldi favourites as wearable fashion, the collection celebrates the tie’s unlikely comeback and proves that the most corporate item in your wardrobe can also be one of the coolest. Shoppers wanting to win the range of Special Ties need to email SpecialTies@aldi.co.uk with their full name before 11:59pm on 27 August 2026.
Julie Ashfield, Chief Commercial Officer at Aldi UK, said: “The tie has had quite the glow-up, going from an office essential to must-have accessory. We couldn’t resist putting our own Aldi spin on the trend by transforming some of our most iconic products into wearable fashion. Our Special Ties celebrate the return of a classic accessory and show that style inspiration can come from anywhere, even the supermarket aisles.”
To win a set of the exclusive ties, shoppers simply need to email SpecialTies@aldi.co.uk with their full name by 27th August 2026. Full T&Cs are available on the Aldi website.
