NEW ALDI SPECIALBUYS RANGE SET TO HELP SHOPPERS BE MORE SUSTAINABLE IN THE GARDEN

With spring on the horizon, Brits are beginning to prepare their gardens for summer months, with sustainable, frugal gardening set to be key trends this year[1]. 

Available to pre-order online from 26^th February, and in-stores from 5^th March, Aldi’s latest Specialbuys range has a host of gardening essentials for both experienced and novice gardeners looking to take up more sustainable habits. With money-saving must-haves such as water butts, spray nozzles, grow bags and mini greenhouses, the range is set to grow down well with shoppers. But Aldi fans better be quick if they want to kit their garden out as, as with all Specialbuys, when they’re gone, they’re gone!

According to the Royal Horticultural Society, up to 24,000 litres of water can be collected from the roof each year[2]. Attaching to guttering to collect rainwater, Aldi’s 100L Waterbutt Set (£22.99) is made from 100% recycled plastic (excluding hose and tap) and creates an effective alternative to the traditional hosepipe. By collecting rain water this will keep your plants well-watered whilst reducing your tap water use. This set includes the connection kit, tap and stand.

With eight different spray patterns and a 4-bar operating pressure, the Garden Spray Nozzle (£3.49) is another simple way for shoppers to reduce water usage in the garden. Designed to control and minimise water usage, the spray nozzle is a must-have for any budding gardener.

With gardeners at the constant mercy of the ever-changing and unpredictable British climate, Aldi’s Wooden Cold Frame (£34.99) could just be the answer. Featuring polycarbonate glazing and a hinged lid for easy access and ventilation. The Dome Greenhouse (£29.99) is perfect for growing and protecting plants in confined spaces. It is easy toassemble and not only protects multiple plants from extreme weather, but it also acts as a regular greenhouse all year round, ideal for small gardens. Meanwhile, the Plant Pop-Up Covers (£9.99)are simple to use with zipped access panels for trouble-free watering and tending, and can easily be secured to open ground, patios, or decks.

Introduce little ones to growing food and living sustainably with Aldi’s Growing Assortment (£3.99). This simple set includes Seed and Cutting Trays and a Propagator Set for sowing seeds and re-potting plants, whilst children can watch their seedlings grow with the Windowsill Greenhouse. Known to require little maintenance[3], shoppers can grow their own strawberries using the Strawberry Grow Bags (2 pack, £4.99) featuring two carry handles and reinforced drainage holes.

As well as saving money, composting at home can help significantly reduce methane production at landfill, yet according to a recent survey almost 20% of people in the UK don’t compost or recycle their kitchen and garden waste[4]. Composting can be made easy with Aldi’s Compost Maker Granules (£4.99) and Garden Compost Bag (£4.99), which will speed up the composting process and ensure a healthy and rich soil, whilst Slow Release Food (£4.99) provides plants will all the additional nutrients they need for the whole growing season.

Shoppers can look the part with the stylish Spring Wellingtons (£9.99). These trendy, yet practical rain boots are available in a variety of fun designs.
