Mum of two, Katie Griffiths, 27, and her partner from Anfield, Liverpool, have had their home named ‘Britain’s Scariest’ and won £1,000 Aldi vouchers following a nationwide search by the supermarket.
The couple’s house has been decorated with giant spiders, menacing skeletons, eerie tombstones, and even features live performers.
Their haunting display beat hundreds of entries to wow judge and Halloween enthusiast, Darren Butler, the mastermind behind the House of Halloween in Whitnash, Warwickshire.
Darren Butler, 35, who previously transformed his driveway into a seasonal house of horrors for charity, says: “I was truly blown away by the sheer creativity and imagination on display. Katie’s house stood out from the crowd with its incredible attention to detail. That entry gate is a stroke of genius. The overall impact is fabulous and a true testament to their dedication to the spooky season.“
Katie Griffiths, 27, says: “We’re thrilled to be crowned Britain’s Scariest House. We’ve poured our hearts into creating this display for the past five years. It started with Halloween parties, then evolved into a way to bring some spooky joy to the community during lockdown and now it has become a way to support two incredible charities, Alder Hey Children’s Hospital in Liverpool and Zoe’s Place Baby Hospice. This win is a dream come true.”
Thanks to the couple’s spooky efforts, both charities will also receive an additional £500 donation from Aldi.
Julie Ashfield, Managing Director of Buying at Aldi UK, says: “We are so impressed by the creativity and the charitable spirit behind Katie’s incredible Halloween display. It’s inspiring to see how much effort they put into creating such a spooktacular experience for their community, all while supporting important local causes. We’re delighted to announce them as our winner and contribute to their fundraising efforts.”
