This year’s International Spirits Challenge 2021 (ISC) has delivered some neat results for Aldi, awarding it the coveted ‘Supermarket Own Branded Spirits Range of the Year’, whisk-ing the title away from last year’s winner Marks & Spencer.
ldi was crowned top of the category after an impressive 20 individual wins for its own brand spirits. The supermarket’s whisky performed particularly well, triumphing over rivals Waitrose and Lidl to win two gold medals for its 18-Year-Old Speyside Single Malt Whisky, and 12-Year-Old Speyside Single Malt Whisky. They also won more golds and total medals than all other retailers at the recent IWSC Spirits Awards, including 98 points Gold Outstanding for 12 Year Old Speyside Single Malt Whisky and 95 points for Haysmith’s London Dry Gin. That’s the spirit!
The award is added to its impressive list of accolades this year, including ‘Drinks Retailer of the Year’ at the Retail Industry Awards, ‘Multiple Wine Retailer of the Year’ at the Drinks Retailing Awards, and ‘Wine Supermarket of the Year’ at the International Wine and Spirits Competition. What’s more, Aldi scooped more silver medals in this year’s Decanter World Wine Awards than Asda, Lidl, Sainsbury’s and Tesco combined.
Now in its 26th year, the International Spirits Challenge is the premier event in promoting outstanding quality spirits from across the globe. The competition is founded on a rigorous and independent judging process, which serves to encourage the high calibre of spirits, designs and campaigns entered into the competition each year. Receiving more than 1,800 entries from nearly 70 countries worldwide makes the ISC a truly global competition. It is supported by many of the world’s leading spirits producers as the international standard for quality and excellence.

Aldi has reported bumper bubbly sales so far this Summer thanks to soaring temperatures and Jubilee celebrations. The supermarket’s best-selling Castellore Prosecco Spumante DOC (£6.25, 75cl) saw its highest day of sales EVER in June, with an incredible one bottle flying off the shelf every second!
Aldi’s Specialbuys Summer Sale has just got even better with more products added, and now you can even shop the sale from your local middle aisle. Just popping in for a loaf of bread? Now you can also take bargain trampolines, tents and garden must-haves to the check out and make the most of savings with up to 50% off. Bargain hunters will need to be quick though, as with all Specialbuys once they’re gone, they’re gone.
