WINE EXPERT REVEALS BEST REDS TO PAIR WITH EASTER SUNDAY LUNCH

  • Mistress of Wine, Sam Caporn, reveals what wine she’ll be pairing with her roast lamb this Easter
  • Aldi launches its new Spring Summer wine range just in time for the occasion – and prices start from just £4.29

Picking a bottle of wine for any big meal occasion can be overwhelming, with endless choices on the supermarket shelves.

But luckily for Aldi shoppers, Sam Caporn – a member of the exclusive Institute of Masters of Wine – is sharing her top Easter picks from the supermarket’s latest Spring Summer range.

MÉDOC WITH ROAST LAMB

Sam says: “Roast lamb is the traditional star of the show at Easter, so my top pick this year would be Château Moulin-Borie Listrac Médoc.

It pairs so well with a succulent roast leg of lamb; the meat will soften the structure of the wine, which is typically well-balanced with red fruit aromas, all whilst enhancing the flavour of the dish.”

Aldi’s NEW Château Moulin-Borie Listrac Médoc (£10.99, 75cl) is the perfect partner for roast lamb. Featuring notes of spice, cherry and plum, with silky tannins, shoppers are in for a treat.

For alternative lamb-pairing vino options, Sam also recommends:

CABERNET SAUVIGNON WITH LAMB CHOPS

Kooliburra Cabernet Sauvignon (£7.99, 75cl)

“Notes of blackcurrant, black pepper, mulberry and spice pair wonderfully with lamb chops, while the wine’s mint undertones will complement a mint sauce brilliantly.”

RIOJA WITH MEDITERRANEAN STYLE SHOULDER OF LAMB

Baron Amarillo Rioja Reserva (£6.29, 75cl)

“Boasting aromas of spicy oak and ripe fruits including blueberry, black cherry and plums, this wine is spectacular with a Spanish style shoulder of lamb with roasted red peppers – a Mediterranean-inspired Easter feast!”

MERLOT WITH LAMB STEW

Kooliburra Australian Merlot (£5.99, 75cl)

“Medium-bodied with Morello cherries, spice and plums and a long, mint chocolate finish, this tipple is a match made in heaven with a slow cooked lamb stew.”

And not forgetting those looking for alternative food pairings:

VENTOUX WITH ROAST HAM OR GAMMON

Specially Selected Ventoux (£8.99, 75cl)

“This Grenache-based wine is ideal with roast ham or gammon as it has the acidity to match the sweet yet salty meat. With aromas of summer pudding, baked strawberries, and cherry compote, it is very fruity with a pleasing freshness.”

CABERNET SAUVIGNON WITH BAKED FILO TART

Estevez Chilean Cabernet Sauvignon (£4.29, 75cl)

“As a vegetarian pairing option, this juicy medium-bodied tipple has an herbal, blackcurrant, mint and black cherry palate, which pairs well with a baked filo tart – full of spinach, leeks, green peppers, goats cheese and peas.’”

Aldi’s range of Easter wines will be available via Click & Collect and in stores from 18th March.
