THE ONLY WAY IS TO UPCYCLE: ALDI TEAMS UP WITH CHANGING ROOMS ICON LAURENCE LLEWELYN-BOWEN TO HELP THE NATION RESTORE, REVIVE AND RENEW, RATHER THAN REPLACE

  • New Specialbuys upcycling range features crafting, sewing and stencilling products, as one third of UK households plan to repair rather than buy new this year.

With more than a third of households planning to repair rather than buy new this year[1], supermarket Aldi has teamed up with interior designer and Changing Rooms icon, Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen to launch a new Specialbuys range of top quality Upcycling products. The new range, available to pre order online from 31st July and in stores from 7th August, will enable Brits to renew, restore and repair for less, promising beautiful results without breaking the bank.

Available through August and September, Aldi’s Upcycling range starts from just £2.49. Savvy shoppers better act fast to bag a bargain – because as with all Specialbuys, once they’re gone, they’re gone.

Commenting on the partnership, Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen said: “It’s time for a craftnaissance to upcycle your home. I’m on a mission to bring maximalism back into your home, embracing the styles that make you, you. Feather your nest and become an upcycling extraordinaire rather than a DIY disaster with my collection of useful but beautiful creative essentials. Opulent fabric in my exclusive designs drawn by my own fair hand, delectable, printed sewing tins and a cornucopia of stamps and stencils to put your own stamp (pun intended!) on your maison… using the most modest budget perfect for today.”

Julie Ashfield, Managing Director of Buying at Aldi, said:As more and more people turn to DIY methods, we hope that this new range will help encourage customers to get involved with upcycling in a bid to live more sustainably and economically. Our collection with Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen shows that upcycling can be used to create stylish products that would otherwise have gone to waste, and hopefully will help people save some money at the same time.”

Hoping to banish the beige and bring the bold and beautiful to the world of Upcycling, Laurence’s range includes specially designed Fat Quarters (£9.99), a handy Sewing Essentials Tin (£6.99), Vinyl Rolls (£6.99) and a unique Stencil & Stamp Kit (£6.99).

Perfect for all types of crafts, including bunting, bags, quilts, bandanas and more, Laurence’s recycled cotton and velvet style Fat Quarters come in packs of eight and are available in an array of beautiful designs. Reflecting Laurence’s flamboyant nature, the Sewing Essentials Tin includes a decadent fabric-covered retractable measuring tape, thread, snips, seam ripper, needles and safety pins, ideal for making quick repairs to extend the life of clothes and home-décor.  The stylish Sewing Kit comes in two hand-painted designs by Laurence, including a decant Flamingo design and a fun Paisley design.

To bring a new lease of life to tired items of furniture, shoppers can opt for Laurence’s wonderful self-adhesive Vinyl Rolls, available in decadent black, cool grey, luxurious purple, a delightful teal and crisp white – perfect for adding a touch of opulence to everyday items! Shoppers can even take their creations to the next level with the Stencil & Stamp Kit which features elegant patterns and designs – great for upcycling old and forgotten items, whilst also bringing a dose of decadence to living spaces. The Stamp Kit contains a selection of fabulous stamps and an opulent gold metallic ink pad, whilst the Stencil Kit includes a mylar stencil with die-cut designs, as well as three stippling brushes.

Not only does Aldi’s Upcycling range feature the wonderful limited-edition crafting range by Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen, but the supermarket will also be selling a selection of handy tools and equipment designed to make upcycling a breeze. For an easy once over on a tired looking wall or piece of furniture, shoppers can get their hands on the Chalk Paint and Furniture Wax Assortment (£4.99), with the Chalk Paint available in stylish modern colours such as charcoal, sage green and cream for an instant refresh!

Don’t forget to pick up DIY essentials, including high-quality Sash Brushes (£5.99), Spray Paint (£4.99) and a handy Glue Gun Assortment (£4.99). Add a bit of fun to everyday practicality with the Tape Selection (£2.49), with on-trend designs including pineapples, zigzags and jungle.
