Aldi is embracing the time for giving by encouraging local charities, community groups and food banks in Fife to register now to receive surplus food donations this Christmas.
As part of Aldi’s pledge to donate 10 million meals this year to families across the UK facing hunger, the supermarket has committed to donate more meals than ever to good causes over the festive period.
Christmas provides an opportunity for even more organisations to benefit from Aldi’s successful partnership with Neighbourly. The community engagement platform links businesses to food banks and charities, enabling all of Aldi’s 98 Scottish stores to donate surplus food seven days a week, all year round.
With all Aldi stores set to close on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and News Year’s Day, the retailer wants to ensure that any products approaching the end of their shelf life reach families who might otherwise miss out this Christmas.
Charities, food banks and community groups in Fife who could benefit from the scheme are encouraged to get in touch and register now for a festive food donation from Britain’s fifth largest supermarket.
Existing charity partnerships will be prioritised for these festive collections, but where there’s availability, additional organisations are being invited to apply to be paired with a local Aldi store to collect fresh and chilled food products – including fruit, vegetables, fresh meat, fish and bread – ahead of stores closing on both Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve.
Mary Dunn, Managing Director of Corporate Responsibility at Aldi UK, said: “Our food donations scheme operates year-round, but we know that Christmas can be a particularly difficult time for the families and communities we support.
“That’s why we are so committed to increasing the number of meals we donate over the festive season, and we look forward to working with local charities in Fife this Christmas to help us meet our 10 million meals target for the year.”

Aldi has been working with Neighbourly since early 2019. As part of the partnership Aldi introduced community donation points in all stores earlier this month, offering customers the opportunity to donate any food or household products to local causes all year round.
Aldi is giving store colleagues in Aberdeen a pay increase for the second time this year, maintaining its position as the UK’s best-paying supermarket.
From September, all hourly paid colleagues at its Aberdeen stores will receive an increase of 40p an hour on their current hourly rate, taking Aldi’s minimum pay rates for Store Assistants to a sector-leading £10.50 an hour nationally and £11.95 for those inside the M25.
Aldi also remains the only supermarket to offer paid breaks, which for the average store colleague is now worth more than £830 a year.
The new rates far exceed the Living Wage Foundation’s recommended real living wage of £9.90 an hour nationally and £11.05 inside the M25.

Aldi Scotland is celebrating its 27th Scottish Summer Beer Festival this July and is championing local independent brewers from across Scotland. This year, Dunbartonshire’s very own flagship brewer, Loch Lomond Brewery, is being featured as one of just twelve brands to make their way to the retailers' shelves this summer.
The brewer, established in Luss, near Loch Lomond, is launching two exclusive brews with the retailer this year; Cuban Heels Pale Ale (£1.79) which is a delicate sour beer with hints of strawberry and lime, and Slave to the Rhythm (£1.79), a hoppy beer with extra oats for a smooth creamy finish. Both beers will be hitting the shelves of 103 Aldi stores across Scotland from the 28 July.
Loch Lomond Brewery has a long-standing relationship with Aldi Scotland and has been supplying the stores with brews since 2013, and throughout the nine-year relationship has launched 14 exclusive beers with the discount retailer.
