LET’S TOAST ALDI’S GRAPE BRITISH WINES THIS AUTUMN

This year’s English wine harvest is set to produce wines bursting with flavour thanks to the September sun. This follows a phenomenal few years for homegrown tipples, which are becoming an increasingly popular option. In fact, supermarket Aldi has found they have become a firm favourite with customers with sales of its own English wines soaring 50% over the past year[1].

To celebrate, Aldi is returning its Specially Selected Lyme Block White English Wine (£8.99) to shelf today. The award-winning wine is from Lyme Bay Winery, found in the rolling hills of south Devon, with the stunning Jurassic coastline nearby. The winery, which prides itself for being the only English Winery to achieve an A* accreditation for manufacturing quality from the British Retail Consortium (BRC), has harvested a staggering 270 tonnes of grapes since the end of September.

Aldi’s Specially Selected Lyme Block White English Wine has become a firm favourite with shoppers since it first landed on the supermarket’s shelves in April 2019. The white wine tipple has been made using England’s signature grape, Bacchus, dubbed by experts as the ‘Sauvignon Blanc of England’.

The ‘pop’-ularity of English sparkling wine also shows no signs of stopping. Aldi has seen sales rocket by over 200%1. Its Exquisite Lyme Block Sparkling Brut Reserve, at just £14.99 is great for those looking to trade up from their usual Prosecco and firm fans of English bubbly alike. Available online only, this fresh and fruity sparkler is slightly drier than Prosecco and pairs beautifully with seafood. Crafted using a blend of Chardonnay, Pinot Blanc, Reichensteiner, Seyval Blanc and Solaris, this delicious English fizz provides a good balance of citrus and toast flavours.

Aldi’s full English wine offering is currently available in stores and can be found online https://www.aldi.co.uk/c/wines.
