Brits are gearing up for peak strawberry season as tennis fans across the nation prepare to immerse themselves in the Wimbledon Championships. According to Aldi, this season means one thing for the fruit aisle – a record number of strawberry sales.

With the first match taking place on Monday 3rd July, the iconic Wimbledon fruit will once again take Centre Court, with the supermarket set to sell up to 1,300 tonnes of strawberries throughout the tournament. Sales will include Aldi’s British Specially Selected Strawberries (£2.85, 400g), and juicy Nature’s Pick Strawberries (£1.89, 400g).

The ultimate doubles partner to the iconic strawberry is, of course, a dollop of cream. Aldi expects this must-have will fly from shelves too, with more than one million pots of cream expected to be sold. Including more than 200,000 litres of Cowbelle Fresh Single Cream (£0.99, 300ml) and Cowbelle Fresh Double Cream (£1.15, 300ml). As well as the limited-edition award-winning Baileys Extra Thick Strawberry Cream (£2.19, 250ml)which isback by popular demandfollowing its success with shoppers last year.

The news comes as Aldi launches its first ever Swing Ball Championships, during week one of Wimbledon 3rd – 7th July, in Cannizaro Park.  Where Aldi will be serving up portions of strawberries and cream for just 89p – a whopping 64% less than the same size servings at Wimbledon.[i] Bookings can be made via Eventbrite and walk in sessions are available on the day, subject to court availability.
