ALDI WELCOMES YEAR OF THE OX WITH ITS ‘FAKEAWAY’ CHINESE BUFFET DELIGHTS – COSTING LESS THAN £2!

The year of the Ox symbolises fortune and personality. This Chinese New Year, Aldi will be saving shoppers a sweet pound, as you can ring in the lunar celebrations with its affordable oriental range, available in stores from 4th February. And that’s not all, as Aldi also has a mouth-watering takeaway-worthy selection of recipes to enjoy, ideal for whipping up a storm in the kitchen for less than £2 a head for a family of four!

First up on the menu is Aldi’s Singapore Noodles (300g, 99p). Rice noodles coated in a luscious dressing made with curry paste and red chilli, these noodles are a Chinese take out classic when topped with pork or prawns.  For those who want to take it down a spice notch, Aldi’s Rice Noodles (300g, 99p) are perfect for whipping up a speedy stir-fry, salad or soup.

Add some extra flavour to your stir-fry beef curry this Chinese New Year with the incredible Coconut and Lemongrass Stir-Fry Sauce (175ml, 79p). With a fragrant and citrusy taste, this stir-fry sauce is certain to delight the tastebuds of those around the dinner table.

For a slightly different twist to your celebrations, consider grabbing a pouch of Aldi’s Katsu Sauce (175ml, 79p). A stir-fry curry sauce with creamed coconut, soy sauce and ginger, the katsu sauce is a winner when poured over crunchy strips of crispy chicken and rice – a Wagamama special!

Chilli Prawn and Broccoli Stir-Fry

Chilli Prawn and Broccoli Stir-Fry (Serves 4. Prep Time: 5 mins – plus defrosting the prawns. Cook Time: 20 mins. Cost:£7.59)

A super speedy, super delicious, prawn and broccoli stir-fry… with a little kick.

Ingredients needed:

  • 2 x 200g packs Specially Selected Raw Jumbo Prawns (£4.38)
  • 2 x 240g bags Specially Selected Tenderstem Broccoli Stir-Fry (£2.74)
  • 3 x cloves Garlic (4p)
  • 15g fresh Ginger peeled (8p)
  • 30ml Honey (7p)
  • 30ml Soy Sauce (9p)
  • 1 x tsp Chilli Powder (4p)
  • 1 x Lime juiced (15p)
  • 160g dried Egg Noodles (2 sheets) (45p)
  • Sunflower Oil to fry
  • 6g fresh Coriander, chopped (8p)

Method

  • Defrost the prawns, grate the ginger and peel and mince the garlic.
  • In a small bowl, mix together the ginger, garlic, soy sauce, honey, chilli powder and lime juice. Heat some oil in a wok and stir fry the broccoli, then add the prawns and cook for about 12 to 15 minutes until the prawns turn pink.
  • Cook the egg noodles in boiling water as per instructions on the pack, ensuring to drain well. Add the soy and honey sauce to the wok and heat through.
  • Serve the noodles and stir-fry topped with the chopped coriander.

Coconut Beef Curry (Serves 4. Prep time: 5 mins. Cook Time: 20 mins. Cost: £10.13)

Keep calm and curry on with this budget friendly family favourite.

Ingredients needed:

  • 800g Rump Steaks (£6.66)
  • 2 x Red Onions (32p)
  • 1 x Green Pepper (26p)
  • 300g Rice Noodles (99p)
  • 300g Bean Sprouts (69p)
  • 60ml Olive Oil with Garlic
  • 2 x 175ml Coconut and Lemon Grass Stir-Fry Sauce (98p)
  • 1 x heaped tsp Curry Powder (4p)
  • 30ml Soy Sauce (9p)
  • 8g fresh Coriander, chopped (10p)

Method

  • Cut the rump steaks into strips and peel and slice the red onions into small wedges. Slice the pepper into strips, removing any white pith or seeds.
  • Heat the oil in a wok and stir fry the steak, sliced peppers and onions for about 10 minutes. Add the bean sprouts, curry powder, soy sauce, and coconut and lemon grass sauce.
  • Cook for an additional 5 minutes until heated through. Meanwhile, cook the rice noodles as per instructions on the pack.
  • Serve the stir-fry with the rice noodles and top with the chopped coriander
