PRETTY CRATE! ALDI LAUNCHES 2L BOXED WINE

  • Mistress of Wine Sam Caporn says boxed wine tastes ‘no different to bottled’, but that it offers fantastic value and stays fresher for longer
  • Equivalent to three bottles of wine, the new addition hits shelves on 11th September

Looking to host alfresco celebrations without pulling on the purse strings? Well look no further as Multiple Retailer of the Year[1], Aldi, is extending its popular boxed wine offering with the NEW Baron Amarillo Merlot (2.25L).

Joining the supermarket’s award-winning range from 11th September and priced at just £12.49,this boxed addition is equivalent to three bottles of vino – perfect for sharing with friends and family.

While there’s no denying it took some time for the wine world to embrace cardboard, Sam Caporn, Mistress of Wine, explains why boxed wine is no different to bottled and is commonly misconceived amongst shoppers.

Historically, lower quality wines were packaged in boxed format with the perception being that customers wanted higher volume at a low price. But that’s not the case now as boxed wines have many advantages.

Once a bottle is open, air can get into the wine and slowly spoil it; but with boxed, it can stay fresh for considerably longer.

There is usually a price advantage too – as you’re not paying for heavy or expensive glass. And lastly, boxed wine tastes no different to bottled. This delicious new addition is sure to be a crowd pleaser.”

Aldi’s smooth and rounded Merlot is packed full of juicy plum, cherry, and blackcurrant flavours. Its soft fruitiness makes the tipple easy to enjoy on its own, but also works well with fresh pasta dishes.
