SUPERMARKET ALDI’S NEW CHATEAUNEUF-DU-PAPE NAMED GOLD MEDAL WINNER

The results for this year’s International Wine & Spirits Challenge (IWSC) are in and Aldi’s new Vielle Étoile Châteauneuf-du-Pape 2017 (£19.99/75cl) has been awarded a gold medal!

It is one of only four gold medals awarded to supermarket wines and the only Châteauneuf-du-Pape to have achieved the accolade.

In even better news, the winning wine comes in at a fraction of the price of other premium Châteauneuf-du-Pape bottles1 at £19.99 (available at aldi.co.uk).

Judges at the IWSC wine awards are among some of the world’s most famous and influential wine experts. Here’s what they had to say about Aldi’s gold medal-winning tipple:

“Displaying elegance in all areas, traditional red fruit nose with a meaty mid-palate as expected. Concentrated, earthy yet fresh and balanced harmony. Lengthy and refined with a pleasingly dry finish. Styled in traditional manner and styled well”

Châteauneuf du Pape is one of the most famous wines of France. Grenache grapes are hand-picked from a selection of the best terroirs of this renowned region in the Southern Rhone Valley. The Vieille Étoile Châteauneuf du Pape is aged in large oak barrels making it a beautifully structured wine, with notes of tobacco, sweet spices and ripe red fruits. Enjoy with stews and venison.

Don’t wait a minute more! Vielle Étoile Châteauneuf-du-Pape 2017 (£19.99/75cl) is available now online
