More than half of parents say they are shocked by how much classic summer treats now cost, with families shelling out an average of more than £50 per child on ice creams over the six-week school break.
The research of 2,000 parents, conducted by supermarket Aldi, highlighted how the price of the humble 99 ice cream has changed, with 85 per cent agreeing that paying 99p for a cone is a thing of the past.
Aldi has invested a further £100 million to cut the price of 330 products, helping to support families through the school holidays.
Shoppers at Britain’s biggest discounter can now enjoy even lower prices across everyday essentials, including fresh and frozen food, cupboard staples, household essentials and personal care products.
These latest cuts mean that Aldi has reduced the price of over 1,000 products so far this year, representing a total investment of £300m in keeping grocery bills as low as possible.
