FAMILIES SPEND £50 PER CHILD OVER SUMMER HOLIDAYS ON 99 ICE CREAMS

More than half of parents say they are shocked by how much classic summer treats now cost, with families shelling out an average of more than £50 per child on ice creams over the six-week school break.

The research of 2,000 parents, conducted by supermarket Aldi, highlighted how the price of the humble 99 ice cream has changed, with 85 per cent agreeing that paying 99p for a cone is a thing of the past.

ALDI INVESTS £100M IN PRICE CUTS ACROSS MORE THAN 300 PRODUCTS

Aldi has invested a further £100 million to cut the price of 330 products, helping to support families through the school holidays.

Shoppers at Britain’s biggest discounter can now enjoy even lower prices across everyday essentials, including fresh and frozen food, cupboard staples, household essentials and personal care products.

These latest cuts mean that Aldi has reduced the price of over 1,000 products so far this year, representing a total investment of £300m in keeping grocery bills as low as possible.

Aldi is reminding families that free period products are available in store toilets across the UK, as schools and colleges prepare to close for the summer holidays.

The reminder comes as students in England may have reduced access to free period products during the holidays, when many education settings that provide them are closed.

ALDI TEAMS UP WITH CHILDREN’S DIETITIAN TO HELP PARENTS FUEL GROWING TEENS ON A BUDGET

Parents’ weekly food shops rise by an average of £42 when their teenagers hit a growth spurt.

A poll of 1,000 parents and guardians with children aged 13-18 found 55 per cent have seen them go through a growth spurt in the past year, with 81 per cent of these saying their overall grocery bill has increased as a result.

In fact, more than a quarter (26 per cent) find themselves making at least two extra trips to the shops each week on top of their usual food run.

ALDI GIVES SHOPPERS THE CHANCE TO TAKE PART IN A REAL-LIFE SUPERMARKET SWEEP 

Aldi is bringing its successful Supermarket Sweep fundraiser to England and Wales for the first time, giving shoppers the chance to win a five-minute trolley dash while raising money for Teenage Cancer Trust. 

Ten winners will be selected to take part in the challenge at their local Aldi store, racing against the clock to fill their trolley with Aldi products in just five minutes.
