ALDI’S UNBEATEN RUN CONTINUES AS IT IS CROWNED WHICH? CHEAPEST SUPERMARKET FOR MAY 

• Consumer champion Which? has named Aldi the UK’s Cheapest Supermarket for May – a 100% record in 2026 which extends back to November 2025 

• Shoppers can save a total of £67.19 by switching from Waitrose to Aldi 

New analysis from consumer champion Which? has once again confirmed Aldi as the UK’s cheapest supermarket for May 2026, based on a basket of 95 popular grocery items.   

Even after loyalty discounts were applied, shoppers would still have paid up to £30 less at Aldi than at Sainsbury’s (priced £198.79) and Tesco (£196.88). Morrisons was £29.20 steeper (£197.50), while Waitrose was a whopping £67.19 more than Aldi for the same basket at £235.49.

Aldi, Britain’s biggest discounter, has made the first delivery from its new Distribution Centre at Bardon in Leicestershire, marking the start of the first phase of operations at the UK’s largest supermarket warehouse.

ALDI ANNOUNCES £5BN BOOST FOR BRITISH FARMERS

Aldi has announced a £5 billion investment in British farming and food production through a series of long-term agreements with UK suppliers.

The supermarket said the deals will give farmers and producers greater certainty to invest in their businesses while helping strengthen British food supply chains.

The agreements, which typically last at least two years, cover fresh fruit and veg, dairy, meat and eggs, with Aldi aiming to source 50% of its domestic produce through long-term agreements by the end of 2027.

THREE IN FOUR PARENTS NOW TURN TO AI FOR WEANING SUPPORT, ALDI FINDS

Three in four parents are now turning to AI tools such as ChatGPT for help with weaning their babies, new research from Aldi reveals.

Parents are now almost as likely to use AI (52%) as they are to rely on friends and family (54%) for quick advice or reassurance, while over a third (36%) say they trust both equally.

While AI is helping to boost confidence – with 84% of parents saying it makes them feel more assured about weaning – many still feel overwhelmed. Nearly half (47%) worry about whether they’re doing it “right”, while others struggle with portion sizes (37%), what foods to introduce first (36%), and navigating conflicting advice (29%).

To support parents during National Weaning Week (11^th–15^th May), Aldi has partnered with children’s dietitian and feeding specialist Lucy Upton to provide expert-backed guidance, alongside a range of simple, affordable weaning recipes designed to make mealtimes easier for families.

NEW RESEARCH REVEALS STIGMA OF BUYING PERIOD PRODUCTS

Almost a third (29%) of women and girls who have or have ever had a period feel embarrassed buying period products in store*, a survey of 1,000 found.

The research, which was commissioned by Aldi, revealed that shame runs deep, with 44% of those that feel embarrassed having deliberately used self-checkouts to avoid being seen, while more than one in three (34%) have asked someone else to buy products for them, rising to 47% among children aged 12 to 17.

PARENTS FEEL MOST LONELY FIVE MONTHS AFTER HAVING A BABY: EXPERT SHARES WAYS TO FEEL MORE CONNECTED FOR MATERNAL MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS WEEK (4th-10th May)

Parents feel most lonely five months after having a baby – when the reality of having a newborn kicked in and friends and family were less available.  

A poll of 1,000 parents with a child aged under five found more than half (55 per cent) have experienced loneliness since having their baby. 

Despite the first few months being filled with excitement (56 per cent), visits from family and friends (48 per cent) and adrenaline (37 per cent), that sense of support didn’t always last.
