ALDI SCOTLAND REDISCOVERS THE GARDEN OF EIDYN WITH OLD CURIOSITY DISTILLERY TO LAUNCH NEW CHERRY BLOSSOM GIN

22 August, 2022

The brand-new cherry-flavoured gin is exclusively available in all 103 of Aldi’s Scottish stores

Aldi Scotland has partnered with The Old Curiosity Distillery once again to launch Eidyn Cherry Blossom, a new, small-batch, cherry-flavoured premium gin that is available for just £19.99.

This new gin from Eidyn (pronounced ee-din), which is named after the Scottish Gaelic for Edinburgh, is exclusive to Aldi Scotland. The cherry blossom produces a fresh floral note, underscored with angelica root, winter savoury and coriander botanicals, which gives way to a light juniper finish. All the botanicals used are grown, hand-picked, and dried from the distillery’s garden in Edinburgh.

This new gin makes for the perfect artisan tipple and the Old Curiosity Distillery team recommend Eidyn Cherry Blossom to be served over ice with your preferred tonic, a sliver of lime and a black cherry garnish. The team are really pleased to be working with Aldi once again to create a new version of the Eidyn gin.

Mark Boswell, Head Distiller, said: “The way we produce our gin means that our carbon emissions are incredibly low, which is something that is very important to us. With the launch of the new Eidyn Cherry Blossom gin, it is really encouraging to see Aldi support both the craft gin industry and sustainability.”

Graham Nicolson, Group Buying Director, Aldi Scotland, said: “We at Aldi have thoroughly enjoyed working alongside The Old Curiosity Distillery since the launch of the original Eidyn gin back in 2020, which has proven to be incredibly popular and has gone on to win multiple awards.

“Scotland has such a rich abundance of fresh ingredients, so it’s great to partner with a supplier that works so hard to bring them to our shelves.

“We are extremely proud to be able to introduce another premium Eidyn gin to our customers, this time in a deliciously floral cherry blossom flavour. I am proud that our competitive prices mean that our customers can still enjoy premium, high-quality products such as Eidyn Cherry Blossom.”

Aldi Scotland prides itself on working with a wide range of Scottish suppliers who are passionate about bringing the best of Scotland’s vibrant food and drink industry to its customers.

ALDI’S MUCH LOVED SUPERMARKET SWEEP IS COMING TO ST ANDREWS

15 August, 2022

Aldi Scotland’s hugely popular Supermarket Sweep has returned for another year and customers in St. Andrews have the chance to raise as much money as possible for a local foodbank of their choosing.

Guaranteed to be the most fun anyone can have while doing the weekly shop, St. Andrews residents have the opportunity to pick up their favourite items from Aldi’s store in the Tom Stewart Lane store.

Launched in 2016, Aldi’s Supermarket Sweep gives shoppers the chance to do a five-minute trolley dash and take home all the Aldi favourites they can grab in that time, with Aldi donating the cash value of the trolley to a local foodbank. The lucky shopper also has a chance to double this cash donation and take home a SpecialBuy item of their choice* if they successfully find a hidden inflatable in-store.

St. Andrews residents can apply for the Supermarket Sweep from Monday 15 August to Sunday 21 August.

Richard Holloway, Regional Managing Director for Scotland, said: “The Supermarket Sweep is an event in the Aldi calendar that we all look forward to. We are so pleased to be bringing the initiative back for another year and offer one lucky St. Andrews resident the chance to have a shopping experience like no other.

“Foodbanks across Scotland have worked tirelessly over the last two years to help those who need their services the most. Last year we donated almost £9,000 to foodbanks through Supermarket Sweep and we want to build on this in 2022.

“From St Andrews to Inverness and Cumnock to Dundee, our Supermarket Sweeps will be taking place across the country. Not only are they a fun way to raise as much money as we can for local foodbanks, but they also give our loyal customers the opportunity to stock up on their favourite Aldi products.”

Shoppers will be asked to nominate their chosen foodbank when applying to take part. Entrants must be over 18 years old to take part, and alcohol products are not included in the sweep.

Entry is free and customers can apply in-store or by emailing supermarketsweep@aldi.co.uk. Entrants must be available to take part in the sweep after stores close at 10pm on their chosen date.

5 August, 2022

Aldi is giving store colleagues in Aberdeen a pay increase for the second time this year, maintaining its position as the UK’s best-paying supermarket.

From September, all hourly paid colleagues at its Aberdeen stores will receive an increase of 40p an hour on their current hourly rate, taking Aldi’s minimum pay rates for Store Assistants to a sector-leading £10.50 an hour nationally and £11.95 for those inside the M25.

LOCH LOMOND BREWERY SELECTED AS ONE OF JUST TWELVE BRANDS TO REPRESENT SCOTLAND IN THIS YEAR’S ALDI BEER FESTIVAL

28 July, 2022

— Aldi Scotland champions local beer makers during its Summer Beer Festival with a line-up featuring Loch Lomond Brewery–

Aldi Scotland is celebrating its 27th Scottish Summer Beer Festival this July and is championing local independent brewers from across Scotland. This year, Dunbartonshire’s very own flagship brewer, Loch Lomond Brewery, is being featured as one of just twelve brands to make their way to the retailers’ shelves this summer.

The brewer, established in Luss, near Loch Lomond, is launching two exclusive brews with the retailer this year; Cuban Heels Pale Ale (£1.79) which is a delicate sour beer with hints of strawberry and lime, and Slave to the Rhythm (£1.79), a hoppy beer with extra oats for a smooth creamy finish. Both beers will be hitting the shelves of 103 Aldi stores across Scotland from the 28 July.

Loch Lomond Brewery has a long-standing relationship with Aldi Scotland and has been supplying the stores with brews since 2013, and throughout the nine-year relationship has launched 14 exclusive beers with the discount retailer.

George Wotherspoon, Head of Sales and Development, Loch Lomond Brewery, said: “We are proud to represent Loch Lomond in this year’s Summer Beer Festival alongside a great selection of large and small brewers. Aldi Scotland has always played a significant role in our development as a small brewery, and to be able to launch an exclusive selection of beer at their stores is a fantastic opportunity.”

Aldi Scotland’s Summer Beer Festival has something to offer for everyone, from beer and ale drinks to those who prefer a non-alcoholic tipple too. In a step away from a standard lager, the selection of brewers featured at this year’s festival are also offering some more unusual choices, including; Cold Town Brew’s Peachy Summer Ale, Cold Town Brew’s Mango Sour, or Thistly Cross’ non-alcoholic Elderflower Cider.

Graham Nicolson, Group Buying Director, Aldi Scotland, said: “The Summer Beer Festival is one of Aldi Scotland’s biggest and most-loved annual events. The relationships we have developed with our Scottish brewers across the country mean we can give our customers the exclusive first taste of a fantastic range of locally brewed beers.”

Alva brewed beer set to appear in over one hundred new stores with Aldi’s Scottish Summer Beer Festival

28 July, 2022

— Aldi Scotland champions local beer makers during its Summer Beer Festival with a line-up featuring Alva’s Harviestoun brewery-

Aldi Scotland is celebrating its 27th Scottish Beer Festival this July and is championing local independent brewers from across Scotland. This year, Clackmannanshire’s very own flagship brewer, Harviestoun, is being featured as one of just twelve brands to make their way onto the retailers’ shelves this summer.

The festival is set to run from the 28 July across Aldi’s 103 Scottish stores and will feature beers from well-known brands such as Innis and Gunn, Stewart Brewing, and WEST while supporting smaller brands including Glasgow Beer Works and Fierce Beer.

Andrew McKnight, Vice Chairman of Harviestoun Brewery, said: “We are proud to represent the central belt in this year’s Summer Beer Festival alongside a great selection of large and small brewers. Aldi Scotland has always played a significant role in our development as a small brewery, and to be able to launch an exclusive selection of beer at their stores is a fantastic opportunity.”

The Harviestoun brews available to buy include Heaven Cent, known for its fruity aromas and citrus tang (£1.49), Ptarmigan, that offers aromas of dried fruit and citrus peel upfront and builds on a malty biscuit base (£1.79), and The Ridge Pale Ale, that offers grassy aromas with a clean and spicy finish (£1.79).

Aldi Scotland’s Summer Beer Festival has something to offer for everyone, from beer and ale drinks to those who prefer a non-alcoholic tipple too. In a step away from a standard lager, the selection of brewers featured at this year’s festival are also offering some more unusual choices, including; Cold Town Brew’s Peachy Summer Ale, Cold Town Brew’s Mango Sour, Fierce Beer’s Citrus Pale Ale or Thistly Cross’ non-alcoholic Elderflower Cider.

The Aldi Scotland Summer Beer Festival further reinforces the retailer’s commitment to championing locally sourced produce and supporting local businesses. Aldi currently works with over 90 local suppliers, stocking 450 Scottish products and is constantly looking to bring more of Scotland’s vibrant food and drink industry to its customers.

Aldi is the UK’s Cheapest Supermarket 2021 according to Which? and offers outstanding deals on locally sourced, Scottish beer products, without scrimping on the quality.

One of the featured brews has been dubbed the “definition of taps aff beer” and apparently tastes even better in the Scottish sunshine

Beer lovers across the capital are in for treat this month as Aldi Scotland has unveiled a selection of craft beers from Edinburgh’s most-loved breweries as part of its 27th Scottish Beer Festival.

The festival is set to showcase 25 craft beers from five regions in Scotland, including Edinburgh and the Lothians, the central belt, Aberdeen, Glasgow, and the Highlands, giving customers the opportunity to sample locally produced, top-quality brews at low prices.
