ALDI APPOINTS 91-YEAR-OLD TRAMPOLINING LEGEND PETER QUINNEY AS ‘CHAMPION FLIPPER’ AHEAD OF PANCAKE DAY
16 February, 2026Aldi has crowned 91-year-old trampolining gold medallist Peter Quinney from Melksham, Wiltshire, as its official ‘Champion Flipper’ ahead of Pancake Day on Tuesday.
To celebrate the title, Peter pulled off the perfect pancake flip whilst upside down which saw the pancake – and the great-grandfather – complete a 360 rotation on a 6 foot high trampoline.
The ultimate Pancake Day stunt took place at Spire Heights Trampoline School, in Salisbury, where Quinney has been training and coaching for 20 years.

The stunt saw him do a full somersault and achieve a height of 7 feet, before he sat down to the delicious reward of a lemon and sugar-coated pancake.
The opportunity to become Aldi’s Champion Flipper came as the former RAF Physical Training Instructor, recently captured headlines after winning two gold medals at a trampolining competition at 91, having returned to the sport after more than 40 years away. His impressive tricks earned him gold in both the team and individual categories.
In honour of Peter’s accomplishments, and to support his quest to raise money for charity, Aldi has donated funds to the Teenage Cancer Trust.

Peter, who hopes to do 100 backflips for his 100th birthday, said: “In all my 91 years, I’ve never received a request quite like this, but when Aldi asked me to be their Champion Flipper this Pancake Day, I thought…why not? Flipping a pancake requires a precise combination of landing and skill, much like trampolining, so it feels like the perfect pairing. I’m delighted that Aldi has donated money to Teenage Cancer Trust, and if these flips bring a smile to people’s faces, then even better!”
Julie Ashfield, Chief Commercial Officer at Aldi UK, said: “From gold-medal backflips to pancake flips, Peter shows that age is no barrier to having fun. We’re proud to crown Peter our Champion Flipper this Pancake Day, and to be donating to Teenage Cancer Trust to mark his incredible achievements.”
Peter began trampolining in the 1950s, became British Trampoline Champion in 1960, represented Great Britain in the first-ever international trampoline competition, and continues to coach at his local club today, supporting young people and those with additional needs.
