• Community sports teams, schools and clubs across the nation have until 27^th July to apply

ALDI INTRODUCES CROWNLESS PINEAPPLES TO CUT FOOD WASTE

Aldi is trialling the sale of crownless pineapples in its latest move to reduce food waste.

With the crown of the pineapple often being thrown away by shoppers, the UK’s fourth largest supermarket will be removing the green leaves from its pineapples during the production process for recycling instead.

The removed crowns will either be used to cultivate next year’s crop or converted into animal feed, reducing food waste by an estimated 1,400 tonnes annually if the change is rolled out across stores.

ALDI SHARES UPDATE ON NEW STORE LOCATIONS WISH LIST 

Aldi has revealed its latest list of priority locations across the country where it is hoping to build new stores.  

Last month, the UK’s fourth largest supermarket called on the nation to get in touch to highlight where in Britain needed new Aldi stores most.

With thousands of requests received, Aldi has now reviewed the list of locations and used it to develop its store search over the coming years. 

ALDI PEELS AWAY PLASTIC WASTE ON BANANAS

Aldi is removing the plastic packaging on its bananas in a trial across selected stores in the North East, Yorkshire, the South West, the South East and the Midlands.

The UK’s fourth-largest supermarket is replacing the traditional plastic bag with a paper band alternative on selected lines, including its Nature’s Pick five-pack, midi bananas and the Organic six-pack.

Aldi is introducing recycled plastic to its own-label crisp packaging in a UK supermarket first.

ALDI REVEALS LIST OF MORE THAN 30 STORES SET FOR UPGRADES THIS SUMMER

Over 30 Aldi stores across the UK will undergo refurbishments this summer, with the supermarket set to invest more than £90 million on store improvements throughout 2024.

Over 100 stores located across the country are getting an upgrade this year – from Crewe to Cardiff and Didcot to Dumfries.

Aldi has lowered the prices on a range of items ahead of Father’s Day weekend.

ALDI INVESTS £750M WITH BRITISH APPLE GROWER

A family-owned Kent-based fruit farm has signed a new £750 million deal with Aldi.

AC Goatham & Son has supplied Britain’s fourth largest supermarket with a variety of apples and pears since 2016 and was announced earlier last year as Aldi’s sole supplier of British apples.
